Hummingbird Day will be held at the Illinois Audubon Society War Bluff Valley Wildlife Sanctuary on Bushwack Road north of Golconda, Illinois. Take Route 146 north 3.5 miles to Bushwack Road and turn left. Follow Bushwack Road about 2.2 miles to the sanctuary entrance on the right. A light potluck luncheon will be held at 12:30 PM followed by the Shawnee Chapter Annual Meeting and elections. Everyone is welcome!
April 21 – Cave Valley field trip with the focus on migrating warblers. Meet at the Pomona fire station at 9 a.m. Then we will proceed to the old fire road with an easy hike to the pond. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars. Trip will conclude around noon. Contact Douglas at 618-564-2079 for further information.
Saturday, December 16 – Christmas Bird Count. We are looking for volunteers to help in the count with the circle mostly in Pope County from Golconda to a little past the Johnson County line and Temple Hill to Bell Smith Springs. It is an all day count but blocks of three hours minimum or specific sites are acceptable.
